Year End Wrap Up: 2015

As the year comes to end, we'd like to take a quick look back at this year's progress and give you a sneak peak at what's coming up in 2016.

Snow in Southern California

2015 started out unusual for Southern California; it started with snow. In the first few days of January, frigid temperatures led to an unexpected snow fall in areas that haven't seen frozen precipitation in years.  Chick Koszis and "MorBonz" took a quick trip to Julian to see what this snow stuff was all about.

Grand National Roadster Show 2015

Meanwhile back at the shop,  the HRCS crew was working hard to get the "Tri-This" '57 Bel Air and '55 GMC pickup wrapped up and ready for the Grand National Roadster Show.  It was a mad dash to get the finishing details finalized before the show, but the final product proved to be well worth the late nights and extra sweat spent. Both the "Tri-This" and the '55 GMC drew a lot of attention at the show and won a total of seven awards between the two of them including: 1st place in class for both, Overall Outstanding Custom ('57 Bel Air), Outstanding Engine Custom ('57 Bel Air), Outstanding Paint ('57 Bel Air), Outstanding Individual Display ('57 Bel Air), and Overall Outstanding Truck ('55 GMC).

Big 3 Swap Meet at Qualcomm

The annual Big 3 swap meet at Qualcomm was next on the 2015 agenda.  We hauled in truck loads of new parts and shop schwag for our usual spot, and a ton of used original parts for the extra spaces we got. We sold a lot, had a lot of fun, and consider the meet a big success!

Goodguy's Del Mar 2015

From there our attention shifted to the 2015 Goodguy's Del Mar car show. We were fortunate enough to be able to display several cars both inside and out at our booth. We brought the "Tri-This" '57 Bel Air and the '55 GMC pickup, as well as the blue '59 El Camino we debuted at the SEMA show. We also brought the Art Morrison chassis for the '62 Corvette, the bagged '65 Riviera, and several of our customers brought their cars to display. The '59 El Camino took home the Classic Instruments' award, while the '55 GMC was awarded the Chevy Truck Pick sponsored by LMC Trucks.

"MorBonz" at the Lonestar Round Up

Shortly after Goodguy's Del Mar, Chick Koszis and "MorBonz" hit the road again to make their first trip out to the Lone Star Round Up in Austin. He continues to rack up the miles and broke 17,500 miles since HRCS finished the car.

LA Roadster's Show 2015

While "MorBonz" continued his adventures, the HRCS crew was finishing up the "Perro Huesos" '32 Ford Roadster to take to the LA Roadster's Show in June. It was a tight deadline, but the team made it happen. The barn find style '32 Roadster was a big hit at the LA Roadster's Show and drew a lot of attention.

Street Mag Car Show - Hamburg, Germany

Around the time the "Perro Huesos" '32 debuted at the LA Roadster show, the McCulloch supercharged '32 that we finished up for our customer in Germany took home Best Hot Rod and Best of Show awards at the Street Mag Show in Hamburg.

Immortalized Car Show & Art Exhibit

One of our favorite shows of the year is the Immortalized car show and art exhibit at the Art Hatch here in Escondido. Their 2015 show in early August did not disappoint and had a stellar turn out.  We brought several cars to the show, along with some of our customers, and the art exhibit featured some of Andy Meeh's (our painter) work.

Nitro Night & San Diego Deuce Day

The first weekend of October brought some excitement with Cruisin' Grand hosting its famous Nitro Night followed up by San Diego Deuce Day Saturday morning. The two events are always on point with some of the best nitro cars out cackling down Grand and Felicita Park packed full of '32s.

"MorBonz" breaks 25,000 miles

Chick Koszis' "MorBonz" made a milestone mark later in the month and broke 25,000 miles. Pretty impressive feat considering it was an America's Most Beautiful Roadster contender just a couple of years ago!

SEMA debut of the '61 E-Z Up Corvette

While all of this was going on, the focus here at the shop was getting the '61 E-Z Up Corvette ready for the end of the year event: SEMA 2015.  What seemed like another impossible deadline turned into one of our biggest successes yet. The Corvette made its debut with mobs of people around it, which continued the entire SEMA show. Needless to say, the car was a hit and will be featured in several magazines in the coming months. Keep an eye out!
