Custom Fender Bending...
With the tailgate finished, Scott goes to work on the fenders.
Two things need to happen here. First, the fender needs to
be longer by 4-inches overall. Second, the wheel well opening needs to be
longer to accomodate the SSR's tires and wheels. By sectioning the fender
we can kill both birds with one stone.
A connected pair of right-angle cuts allows the two fender
sections to "slide open". The resulting gaps are then filled with
sheet metal strips.
As you can see in this top-view, sliding the two halves of
the fender apart has altered the alignment of the top edge of the fender.
That's OK, though. We will have to widen the fender anyway.
