502 Cubic-Inches of Pure Muscle
The Big-Block lurking under these ram-air scoops is a ZZ-502
crate motor capable of producing (you guessed it) 502 horsepower, and 567
foot lbs. of torque. With forged aluminum pistons, forged steel connecting
rods, forged steel crankshaft, 4-bolt main block, stainless steel valves,
6-quart oil pan, windage tray and 5800 RPM redlline -- this motor runs and
feels like a custom built race engine. This puppy will do what the licence
plate says - Burn Rubber!
To keep weight down, the ZZ-502 makes use of aluminum heads,
intake, water pump and valve covers. Jet-Hot coated Hooker headers feed
into a custom-built exhaust system from Wholesale Tube Bending in Escondido.
The carburetor is a Demon 750 Double-Pumper topped off with a hand-made
air-cleaner from Hot Rods & Custom Stuff. From Zoops come the billet
aluminum pulleys and brackets. Cooling is provided by U.S. Radiator.
All that power is sent to the rear wheels by a Messler Products
4L80E transmission, connected to a Currie Ford 9-inch rearend, by a custom-built
and balanced drive shaft from Oceanside Driveline.
Stopping power is provided by a four-wheel Wilwood disc-brake
system. Hotchkis A-arms, tubular control-arms, sway-bars, springs and more
complete the suspension system that give this beast a smooth ride and superior
handling.
