Rust Be-Gone!

On any project of this type, rust repair is one of the more tedious and time consuming jobs to be tackled. Here the rust has eaten away at the rims of both fender wells. Not an easy repair.

First, a backing plate is tack-welded into place which will later become the backside of the rolled edge.

Next, a piece of sheet metal is cut to match the original contour of the fender wells outer edge.

Once the countour is correct, a lip is added that will mate with the backing plate. Once this is done the damaged portion of the fender well is cut-out and the new piece welded into place. The rolled lip of the new piece will welded to the support piece on the back side.
