Transmission: Chrysler Torque-Flite 727D with Gear Vendors
The transmission mount/crossbar had to be custom fabricated.
It's going to be a tight fit in there. Normally, we would make modifications
to the firewall and trans tunnel to increase the clearances, but since the
owner does not want the body altered or cut, we have to be a bit more creative
to make everything fit where the stock components did.
And it fits! With a few milimeters to spare....
Wood blocks are set in between the block and the frame while
the motor hangs from the lift. The alignment of the engine and transmission
are checked one last time before tacking in the motor mounts.
The steering box is from Detroit Speed and Engineering. It
an Impala box that has been specially modified for this car. Just above
the box you can see the notches in the frame for the radiator. Modifications
to the steering box include getting it to clear the bottom of the radiator.
